Gharza (now) has a Missile Shield, and feels much better about dealing with bow-wielding skeletons. And we already started the encounter, so ambush and backstab definitely don't apply. |

Gharza Brokentooth: | You'll have to get through Gharza and Vondur to get to Teeto, but that's possible. And Stonemaul's at half dodge so if he gets swarmed he's in trouble. |

Gharza Brokentooth: | Vondur's paired crits there really swung the fight at the hallway back to 'Teeto's gonna live'. |

Gharza Brokentooth: | Skeletons are all supposed to be 1h weapon + shield. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | But it's definitely raw-legal (and suggested) to equip them differently from the stat block. |
Kyle: | yeah, I couldn't see how the army of skeletons did anything impressive without at least a little more reach |
Kyle: | I suppose a lot more bows could have done it. |
Fiona Firedrake: | I am shocked the bows did something cool (well, cool from the archers point of view) |
Starslayer: | bows are scary- I was kind of suprised by the rest of the group's just ignoring the archers. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | I would have done half of them as archers in two ranks with another two ranks: shields and swords/axes/maces in front, 2h spears in the back. |

Starslayer: | thr-imp damage, which is still quite scary, and the low RoF is a definate tradeoff, but they get to place those wherever they like while largely ignoring others. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | But 'doesn't have tactics, doesn't care about the other PCs much'. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | Anyway. In my ideal world, team PC would have stayed together, holding the line at the front with Bowgre off to the flanks. |
Starslayer: | which means that tactically it should go down roughly like it did- all three archers choose one target and try to pincussion. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | That would have let Fiona block and parry for the team. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | With Vondur and Gharza using reach to get over their heads. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | Instead we scattered. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | And got cut up some. |
Fiona Firedrake: | PCs need to spread and have room to manuever so they can try to avoid being forced into close combat, we were in a lot of danger jammed together in the doorway |

Starslayer: | that and we needed to get to the archers. |
Starslayer: | because you can't parry arrows. |
Fiona Firedrake: | Close combat leads to grappling leads to horrible death |
Starslayer: | (well you can but the penalties are quite high) |
Kyle: | Pretty sure everyone in the party can out grapple a skeleton |
Gharza Brokentooth: | Skeleton moves into close combat with Fiona > Vondur, behind Fiona, wallops it. |
Fiona Firedrake: | But theres not 'a' skeleton |
Kyle: | I'm actually super thankful for fragile unnatural here. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | More of them start stacking up the penalty to *each other* for it. They're not skilled grapplers, so DX-13. |
Kyle: | meant nothing clung to life for way too long. |
Starslayer: | yea- the scary thing about grapples is not the 'one' its the '5 skeletons charge into your hex and take turns nibbling at your vitals while the rest of the party desperately tries to beat them off you while avoiding a similar fate' |
Gharza Brokentooth: | You guys have not enough faith in the power of dodge-14. |
Fiona Firedrake: | Grappling is a leading cause of death and defeat in StarSlayers games |
Gharza Brokentooth: | Shield walls work. GURPS reflects this reality. |

Fiona Firedrake: | heh, and due to my glacial move, in front of me is the usual place of my allies |

Fiona Firedrake: | Before this the lowest move I can ever recall playing was 5 |
Gharza Brokentooth: | That's fine. Enemies will come to you, you'll ignore their attacks because you've got a parry that exceeds the critfail threshold, and then you get to make them regret attacking you. |
Kyle: | but getting some more ST to ease off that encumbrance penalty can't hurt. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | More ST and less encumbrance never hurts. |
Fiona Firedrake: | But 3 seems to work fine once battle is joined as long as enemies cooperate by moving towards me |
Gharza Brokentooth: | But heavily armored warriors will be move 3-4. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | If you're faster than that, put on more armor. |
Gharza Brokentooth: | Leave 'zip around the battlefield' to the scouts. |

Gharza Brokentooth: | The Mass Combat fantasy game I play on Thursdays has orc legionnaires who are routinely move 2-3. |
